Ok so my GF is 30 on tuesday and i've decided after 5 years with me it's time to do the honourable thing and ask her to marry me so i've just bought the ring (could have bought so much diving kit with that money) my question is i was thinking about asking her on her birthday do i still need to buy her a present or is the ring enough and when is a good time to ask about prenuptials

I'd buy her a small gift as well. Are you going our for a meal? If so I'd ask her before you go out then when she's told you to pi$$ off you can save the money you would have spent feeding her on drowning your sorrows instead

Actually, I really would ask her in private, then you can celebrate together when she says yes!

Hey Sparky, I think an expensive ring is a very decent birthday present. You don't have to buy something else as well. just my opinion. Hope she says yes.

It's not too late.....you don't have to throw your life away at such a tender age.

Anyway.....that ring will hurt you when she chucks it at you in a few years time.

Why not do the decent thing.....flowers (from the garage) and choccies (Yorkie will do then you can share) for her b'day....maybe even a slap up meal at McDonald's finest restaurant. Who said romance is dead?

I'm with H on this, I was once given a ring on my birthday which I took to be my 'present'....... it was only a while later that I realised it was supposed to be an engagement ring
The relationship didn't last and unfortunately the ring was stolen a few years later, but I always loved that ring

I think as I had to lend/give my ex the money to buy the ring, I knew what it cost and wanted another present

I asked SWMBO to marry me just before her birthday. she had been talking about white chocolate buttons a few dyas earlier so I got her them for her birthday and then took her into town to choose a ring, then took her out for a slap up meal at a posh restaraunt.

so yes get her something but something silly that will make her laugh and she will be putty in your hands
