I'd put them in the little dimple provided by the pear-half. But, as I've only had experience of pineapple, the cherry obviously (and neatly) went in the hole in the centre.

And, for the poll, I prefer pineapple.

My Mum still has the peg bag I made (yes, gingham) and the knife rack I made in woodwork is still on their kitchen wall, they must be over 25 years old . Thankfully the pineapple upside down cake was eaten .

Anyone else still have old school projects?

Neither.
Apple. Pineapples and pears, when they come out of a tine are quite revolting. And please don't get me ont eh subject of glace cherries.

Apples never come out of a tin.

I remember making kegeree (never made it since) and a heart shaped spnge cake for valentines day. It had pink icing and i gave it to some one - I can't remember who.

I used to love needlework. I have made loads of things since I left school, from posh frocks to business suits and curtains. There is something quite satisfying in a conversation which goes..
I like your dress/blouse/curtains (delete or change as appropriate)
Why, thank you.
Where did you get it?
Actually, I made it

or..
was it expensive
No, just the cost of material and electricity

Master Scubee came home with a present for me just before the end of term. It is a little cross stich plaque, framed, saying 'Home Sweet Home'. He is in year 6. The secondary school he will be going to is a boys school, and has its own cooking labs.
I can't wait for him to be cooking at school. He will bring all sorts of yummie stuff for me to eat. So far he is pretty good at Leek and Potato Soup, Lasagne, and stuffed pancakes.

I did home economics until i was in my first year of GCSE's whcih would have been 1994. We also did technology (woodwork and electronics) and textiles (sewing and design). This class was dropped once you decided which GCSE's to take as there wasnt time for it in the timetable.

I missed out bigtime, it seems...

All boys school with wood work and metal work compulsory .... no cooking facilities other than for school dinners.

Left school and went to naval college where all cooking was done for me.

Then went in th NAvy where all cooking was done for me.

Then worked for a firm with a staff restaurant.

Then married a wonderful cook.

I was somewhat embarrassed when I did a diving course in France last year with self catering facilities, when my two other course mates were great cooks .... at least I did do the washing up and get the coffee on the go

Mal

1960's Secondary Comprehensive- Boys did cookery and girls did Metalwork / Woodwork for a term.

Miss Mortlock (V nice blonde) taught us how to make Cornish pasties and have followed her recipe ever since. At the same time girls learnt how to make glue scrapers and beat copper into ashtrays.

Sciences were all "teach yourself" - Nufffield syllabus

At my secondary school in the 70's girls did cooking and boys did woodwork and metalwork, only protection really was aprons and gloves. You all had to do it, no real excuses. Plus in our metalwork class the teacher was ruthless and if you misbehaved, you got a clip round the ear and told off, so you soon paid attention.

I think the domestic stuff would be great for kids nowadays, but having heard the debate on tv, I wondered how much red tape would have to be cut first, let alone the health and safety politics of it all.

I learned to cook at home and then better still, once I left and I'm pretty accomplished now. Well at least I haven't killed anyone yet or given them food poisoning.

I was being adventurous! Pineapple is sooooo last season.

I wouldn't put the glace cherries anywhere. They are the Devil's testicles.
