Out of curiosity I have just consulted the cook book I believe I got the recipe from (the book having been handed down to me by my Mam). What I actually made was pear and gingerbread upside-down pudding.

In between the pages of the book I have also found my hand written 'work plan' for making vegetable curry in a Home Economics lesson - it's dated 29.3.82

Lightweight. Some of us were making proper dinners out in the big wide world then, for proper boyfreinds who were allowed to stay overnight because there were no parents looking (they had moved to the frozen north!)

Presumably because marmite comes out of them?


I was never given the option of doing cookery at school so I taught myself. We did woodwork (made a small wooden box), metalwork ( made an ashtray, not that anyone smoked but it was one of the teacher ('beefer' Thomas') less apalling vices, and tech drawing in which we drew cones with their tops cut off. Useful eh?

being able to draw the perfect 'roll up' is OK at least you have a map to work to then when you were a student

Aha! A difference!

I was constantly at my mum's glace cherry supply, to the extent that they had to be put on a special shelf out of my reach. I love the things, even to this day.
