Needle the bricks:

Punch a hole through the stack and put a support through ( a 4X6 will do it)
then support both sides with acro's or wedged props

Bodge it with a length of Angle iron:

Rake out a mortor joint across a line above where you want to work and hammer in a length of angle iron

If your house falls down using either sugestion I was obviously talking bollocks so more fool you

But Mark,

Look at the results when he fitted the new hot water system.......God knows what will happen when he tries brickwork!

I am saying the same as Chasey, just not as good at explaining myself

If you have access to strong-boys then that will do the job no problem.

Thats what id use, but then I have a set in the yard. I was looking for a more DIY bodge it answer

well - I'm still here..

.. and more importantly so is the house!

thanks for all the advice last week..

1 strongboy and 1 acro did the job nicely - supporting the chimney breast while the new lintel went in, mortar dried and then the old lintel was cut out.

all in all nearly finished just waiting for a few bits to dry before it is complete.

on reflection it was a job for a handy DIYer - and not for someone who is not up for serious DIY. I'll take some piccies once its finished and post them up.

so thank you again..

greens incoming.
