| I lost a wallet with c£50 in it once and a lot of trade ID cards. It got returned to me minus the money, from then on I expect that if the wallet goes missing and i get the contents back minus cash then I did well out of the situation. so the inverse applies- if I find a wallet with a load of cah etc then the cash gets donated to charity and the people get their wallet and cards back everybodies happy. its not the cash or the cards getting lost that bothers me its the pictures of the kids family etc thats important, so i make sure where possible the wallet/purse gets returned. when SWMBO dropped her purse outside the house and the postie found it and gave it to the neighbour iwaited in for the postie the next day and gave him the cash in it. He could have lifted it but didn't and returned it so thats the least I could do.

| what do you mean, everybody's happy'? if you take money out of somebody's wallet, no matter what you do with it afterwards, then you are a thief.

| What you did was right. My other half lost his brand new, up to date flash Nokia phone about 1 - 1½ years ago. I phoned it constantly and got a reply. Put my other half on, and in a nutshell, they handed the phone into the police station, he got it back, and he sent a rather generous cheque to them via the police. They could have so easily removed the SIM card, binned it and kept the phone. It was (at the time) top of the range. Incidentally, I've now immobilised mine and his mobile on www.immobilise.com (or is it co.uk?) and when another SIM card is put in it, it renders the instrument totally useless. It works ONLY with that SIM card. For those of you who wish to use it - I have.

I hope Matt finds any wallet/purse I lose, and I hope you don't. Well done, Matt for what you did. If it had been me, you would have got a hug at least, although sometimes it can be a real shock when you lose something v. important, and expressing gratitude does not come easy to some people.

| I found a woman's purse a couple of years ago no id or anything with contact details so I took it to the nearest police station, about a week later a nice letter and £10 came through the door from the lady. I wasn't expecting anything so it was a nice gesture.

| I got a phone call from a guy in Nigeria a couple of years ago, asking to confirm my details and asking for my address - my initial thought is that this is some kind of scam. Anyway it turns out that I had left my passport in a suit pocket. My wife then took the suit down to the charity shop, ultimately finding its way to Africa! Once I worked out what was going on I was very thankful. The chap posted it back to me. Unfortunately he didn't include his address so that I could thank him again. Therefore I haven't thanked him as much as I would like to but am very grateful for honest spirited people like him.
