Just because you have never had the good fortune to have lost "Stuff" returned it does not give you any sort of grounds or entitlement to steal other peoples stuff.
It's a very juvenile attitude IMHO.

I thinkmost of us feel that if we lose something like a wallet, that we won't see it again, and when we do, there is a sense of relief. but it doesn't chnge the fact that cash has been stolen. Am I supposed to be grateful that you chose to give my money to charity? why should i believe that is what you have done, or wouldn't you bother to tell me?

oooh I got a bite.

you have all just been 'duded'

most of those that posted don't know me.

my real take on this-

well done Matt, just the thing i would have done. its awful when you lose a wallet/have it lifted. as I said when the postie gave the purse back intact he got the contents as his reward for excellent behaviour.

I have found a few purses in the street, mainly empty bar for some pictures and an address, have handed em in at police stations and had contact back from the police that it has been claimed and the person wants to give a reward as the pics meant a lot- have I accepted, yes sort of, I told em to give to charity and usually try to steer em to RNLI or a cancer charity.

Doing the right thing

Well done for doing the right thing! The feelgood effect is always worth it!

A couple of years ago my daughter went into the local town to exchange pounds into dollars for her, her partner and the granddaughters trip to see us over here. They had been saving the cash for a few of months and she had over a £1000 in an envelope. She parked in the multi-story and when she got to the bank she realised no envelope and she knew she had the envelope when she parked the car. She ran back to the car retracing her steps and by now she was in a highly agitated state. When she got to the car park she was running around the car, in floods of tears and a homeless man who 'lived' in the car park came over and asked if everything was ok,through the tears she explained she'd lost an envelope with some cash in it. The homeless man said, well I guess this must be it and handed it back to her. She'd dropped it, he'd picked it up and all he said was saved me going to the Police with it. Every penny was in there and he point blank refused to take a penny of her. What class!

The guy sells Big Issue and anyone who nows me and the story buys one every time we see him.

It got returned to me minus the money, from then on I expect that if the wallet goes missing and i get the contents back minus cash then I did well out of the situation.

so the inverse applies- if I find a wallet with a load of cah etc then the cash gets donated to charity and the people get their wallet and cards back everybodies happy.

its not the cash or the cards getting lost that bothers me its the pictures of the kids family etc thats important, so i make sure where possible the wallet/purse gets returned.

when SWMBO dropped her purse outside the house and the postie found it and gave it to the neighbour iwaited in for the postie the next day and gave him the cash in it. He could have lifted it but didn't and returned it so thats the least I could do.
same thing happend to me when my misus found my wallet that i had 'lost'

Well done mate.

Few realise that being honest (and generally nice) gets you a lot further in life with next to no effort.

Now, where's the Daily Mail gone, I need a dose of "reality"
