Super massive black holes!

Isn't TV a wonderful thing sometimes? I've just been to visit my Mum for dinner and watched a part of a program about Super Massive Big Black Holes (something like that). I'm not sure how old the program or the science is but I hadn't heard of this before.

With the usual caveats of my limited attention span and memory etc etc, it appears that the latest thinking is that there is a black hole in every galaxy of stars and that the black hole is indeed the creator of the galaxy.

The proof (?) appears to be that there is a direct correlation between the speed of rotation (sigma) of the stars at the edge of the galaxy and the size of the black hole. Originally, there would have just massive dust clouds and as the black hole sucked in the dust it grows in size. It then emits matter which becomes planets ..... I missed this bit of the program so have no idea how. Eventually everything ends up in balance and stays like so until more matter is absorbed into the black hole.

Anyway, it's amazing. How do the these people work this kind of thing out? It sort of makes sense to me as I've always imagined a black hole event horizon to be the gateway to another dimension or ..........?

So, black holes in space absorb tiny specs of stuff into them and eventually create and shoot out space bodies? Obviously, vaginas in space?

Anyway, if you have any interest in this sort of subject it is a good program to watch. It was on Discovery on one of its compatriot Sky programs.

Hmmmmmm...having purged myself for two days and starved myself since last night, this morning I had a yummy Barium drink courtesy of the NHS. I'm sat at home now feeling like a big black hole shooting out space bodies. Fluorescent space-poo, anyone?

Makes life easier for the toilet bowl astronomers?

Is that for an ulcer check? Hope all OK etc etc.

I've been meaning to go and ask but I'll just wait till I'm really ill, I think. As mentioned elsewhere on YD recently and by Billy Connolly, when I go and see my doctor these days he spends most of his time behind me wearing Marigolds or up front squeezing my nadgers .

Hmmm, perhaps I should have added an "er" and an "and"?

Me, getting on? Hah! I wish. I'm more in danger of falling off than anything else.

Irritable Babe Syndrome - every month?

Hope you're Ok - Crohn's runs in my family (my son, sister and a nephew all have it) and I know how bad it can be.
