| Ashbourne Divers/Chernobyl charity - Support for petition Dear All You probbly don't know but an Ashbourne, Derbyshire charity organises annual respite visits to the UK for young people from the Chernobyl region of Belarus. The charity pays for the cost of transportation to the UK and accommodation/food during their stay. Whilst here, Ashbourne SAC arrange for them to visit the club on a couple of the Thursday night club nights and experience a try-dive. The annual visits may be jeopardised because the UK Foreign Office now requires all children's visas to be validated with biometric data. The biometric data must be updated every 6 months. Currently this can only be done by travelling to UK Visa Office in Minsk (around 400km / 250 miles each way). The additional cost and logistics of this activity cannot be met by our local group and the children's families do not have the resources themselves. Please help our local Chernobyl Children's charity to continue its marvellous work by signing a PM petition Petition to: Facilitate the issuing of Biometric Visas in Mogilev in order to avoid the prohibative cost to charities of transporting children to Minsk. to persuade the Foreign Office to setup a sub-office in Mogilev to reduce the transport and logistics costs vastly. They will not budge on the 6 month rule! The petition was started by a similar charity in Lancashire (Friends of Chernobyl Children). You have until the 15th February to sign the petition. If you support the idea, please take a few minutes (on t'internet) to sign-up and if you are so minded, try and get additional support if possible. I am trying to get hold of the photos from last year so that you can see the smiles on the faces of the kids. Apologies in advance about the stomachs on display from our lot. Thanks Jay Benson Last edited by Jay_Benson : 30-01-08 at 08:46 PM. |

| Done .We have hosted a day for Chernobyl kids over the last few years, take them out on the fireboat, let them spray water from the monitors and then feed them traditional cheese & onion doorstop sarnies back on the pontoon, they are great and I for one would miss their visits, hope the petition works.

| Saw a piece on TV about this a while back. The kids clearly got a great deal out of it. Petition signed.

| Can anyone else see their name added to the list? I've just signed up, but my name has not be added to the list, and the "number of signatures" has not changed... |
