| I suppose you need to contact the guys at Swansea to get an age related plate. MM ps, probably not at Swansea.

| I bought a car in 92 and bought a plate it has been on 3 different cars and each time the dealer has dealt with it, I didn't have to do anything. |

| I'm unlikely to use a dealer and will be selling privately. I guess I need to get in touch with DVLA. Thanks for the advice

When we bought our car 10 years ago we asked for our private plate to be put on it as part of the dealers deal. It was first registered with the original years number, then our cherished number was registered a short time afterwards. For about 2 years when it came to insure the thing, the original number reference kept showing up and not our private plate! Worth asking, then its just paperwork, or similar.

| if it was dealt with by the dealer, it was probably put straight onto the PP hence they'll be no "original number" either contact the DVLA or if you have a DVLA office near you, its definately worth calling in, expect to wait but its over and done with they'll supply you with a new tax disc, MOT and V5 via Swansea (with a new 06 number) but you get to keep the original docs (except the V5) until they're sent from Swansea it costs £80 for the transfer and £25 for the retention fee, both paid in advance they'll also supply a doc that will allow you to get a set of number plates made up with the V5, not that they bother checking often, but they are supposed too, to help stop cloning when I've done mine, I've did them all well in advance of selling the vehicles so that I got the V5 back from Swansea (upto 6 weeks) so that I could pass it onto the new owner, nothing dodgier than selling a car without the V5!
