oh and the bit that I will quote is 'suitable for use' therefore it can be reasonably expected that the IP24 fan being only 100 mm or so from zone 1 could be subject to jets of water, I know my kids can make a caravan shower squirt across the room. viz a viz not suitable, you could pay silly money for a IP56 rated but a cheap IP24 SELV would suffice. the regs are not law they are advisory and can be used to suport a claim that the relevant law has been met. the CDN regulations would cover such an instance of this fan not being suitable. Caravan manufacturer must have a very very good legal team if they think they would be able to defend this in the event of a serious mishap. ECA agree with me also

how much do you pay them each year! ada ![]() ps so a mains fan in zone 2 is ok! and not as you stated in your first post anything else and you could be playing on the customers fear of electric and lining your own pockets with work not really needed ;}

| Well another interesting thing is Part "P" , I did not realise there was a way round it ! You just notify your Local Authority Building Control about the electrical installation work before it starts & then allow the Local Authority to verify the work. Easy really & no paying the local rip off eleccies ![]()

| Yes but, it then follows that Part P cannot apply to static caravans :- They are not permanent structures & therefore are not covered by building control regulations . So end result is not their problem ,so CYA .

I don't pay the ECA I called as a consumer who had a query about a fan Oh and as an electrician who has fitted thousands of Fans, I know that caravan ones ain't gonna be IP56 and therefore not suitable being as zone 2 is most of the bathroom and it could,as I stated be reasonably expected to be subject to jets of water. mmmmm nice especally when at the end of day when you are most likely to shower and your tired and your resistance is lower in a wet area you hit the bit of the fan you really didn't want to. if you feel, like you need to score points then do so. At the end of the day if you install an IP24 mains fan in Zone 2 its at your risk. FWIW a basic SELV fan is roughly the same cost as a mains one at IP24 and cheaper than an IP56 one its not the regs themselves its the application of them,with some common sense thrown in that makes a good spark less likely to injure somebody.
