How can David Jason play Rincewind??????

He was perfectly suited to be Albert in The Hogfather.

That means that when they do any of the other books they will have to recast Albert.

Wish I had sky instead of Virgin. Would have liked to have seen this.

I look forward to hearing whether it was any good.

I was disappointed with Hogfather. Perhaps I expected too much, perhaps it was just too hard to translate so much of the written humour to a visual medium.

I've just read Making Money, not the funniest by far IMO, but one of the more interesting as the Patrician is so much more involved.

I suppose I'll see this eventually, but I think I may well be disappointed again as I have very much my own picture of the characters in my own mind by now. It could not be any other way in 20+ years of reading the books.

I saw Terry at a talk on Saturday evening. He said that he was aware that many thought David Jason was to old for the part, but having now seen the rough cuts, he will always think of Rincewind as David Jason from now on.

Terry also has a small cameo part as astro-zoologist number 3.

I have not read a single Terry Pratchett book yet But I was really looking forward to seeing Hogfather, due to the hype over his books and the cast involved. I was hugely disappointed

I'll watch this Colour of Magic one and if it's in the same vein, I can't see me bothering reading the books at any point in the future. I suppose I was hoping for something so gripping it would make me go and get the books to get even more storyline and detail (I do like to read a book and see the film in most cases)

I appreciate the book may well be better than the TV, but with a pile of other unread books to work through, I needed a reason to go out and get them.

IMO the books are far better, as TP has a good way of playing with words and plays with your own thoughts. This just did not come across on the screen.

Try one, some are better than others though, but I'm glad I tried one when I did. I am not a fan of fantasy fiction at all, but then these are not fantasies...

I found the Hogfather quite disappointing.
partly due to the intense hype and constant advertisements, and also because it was one of the few things I've actually watched on the Sky One channel...

Thankfully SKY+ saved me from having to endure the frequent 5 minute ad breaks. Fast forward button got well used as there were LOTS of ads.

For a subscription service I found the length and frequency of ad breaks to be completely over the top and now I simply ignore any routine programming on Sky's own channels.

If you're watching it real-time, and decide to have a flick during the ad breaks ('cos lets face it, there's still plenty of spare ad break time to use up once you've made several cups of tea and visited the loo to make room) you'll find ALL of the channels running ads at the same time!

I'll SKY+ this and then save myself about 15-20 mins of each hour and not have to watch the ads.....

Also didn't find The Hogfather that funny, and although I've not read the book, if it's on the same level as the rest of TP's discworld novels then it struggles to make the transition and retain the "laugh-out-loud-whilst-reading-a-book-on-the-bus-and-getting-lots-of-weird-looks" effect...

so I guess that's a vote for the written word!
