that one is a good one and has worked when I unplugged the server at the old place, I got some overtime out of it fitting a UPS and replacing the input sockets on some PCs and was congratulated by the MD for my actions.

now I know what you server lot get up to I'll be a bit more cynical when having to deal with all the noise through my helpdesk due to unplanned reboots....especially if this is the kind of spin you put on it to make it look like the world would end if you weren't there!

depends on the server and OS it may be there is a known issue.
If all else fails log a hardware call for it quick

Been there, done that.

Its a real pain when you realise what you have done after you have pressed the button in, but not yet released it. Sat there for half an hour once waiting for the right set of managers to sign off the forms to allow for 'unscheduled maintenance'.

Just apologise, and then point out that you have exposed a hole in the redundancy plan and you actually need more servers to act as a fail-over. Now that you are looking after more servers you will obviously need to be paid more.
