| More to this than meets the eye... Reading this article in the Torygraph on line. Seems a paraglider in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne got snagged in a tree. The Tele talks about it being "mountan ash" - fine, so he got stuck in a Rowan tree then? Bigg whoopy doos...So what's all the fuss about? Actually, a "mountain ash" in Victoria (a Swamp Gum here in Tas) is a huge eucalypt tree, Eucalyptus regnans; they commonly grow to 60-70m tall with some specimens over 90m tall and records of one or two exceeding 100m - there's a stand in the Styx Valley, about 100km from Hobart, wityh many over 90m tall, the tallest at 96 or 97m, truly statuesque. This bloke must have been crapping himself.
