Here's a thought - you go diving - the parking it £6 per day you could always take it with you

I have always parked in the car park, it's within 10 yards of the café and you can dump your kit in the car and still be in "walking distance" when I need something out of the car.

I don't get down very often but when I do please everyone park on the street, that way I will always be able to get in the car park

£40 on a boat
£40 on fuel for the car
£15 on drink/food
£30 on accomadation for the night

£6 on parking doesn't seem that much, especially if you are sharing a car, so only £3 each.

£6 per day - well not cheap but in Brighton last monday a mate was there in a NCP car park for a concert. When she got back to the car the charge - which she hadn't checked out before - was 75p for each 15 mins.
She was there for about 4 hours?? The councils and NCP seem to have a licence to print money.

Usually, the longer the stay, the cost/hr is lessened, not there obviously.
Wasn't there something on the news the other day about councils actually reducing the amount of double yellow lines on the roads?
Ah, here it is. Wonder what the council tax bill is in that area though

Thats OK if you are made of money, not all divers have an extra 6 pounds to spend on top of all the other costs to go diving. Given the choice between 6 pounds in a car park and a free space an extra few yards away, I know which I would be doing...

See my last post. I appreciate that as a percentage of the cost of a diving weekend it is small change, but it can be the difference between being able to go on a trip or not. Some of us have to be frugal with our money, and are not fortunate enough to be in the fortunate position of many of the Portland regulars such as Gledders who have nice cars and jobs which pay well.

(sorry Claire, not having a go, just using your truck as an example)

One could extend that to Stoney. Park on the corner at the back of the top car park, and hop over the wall. You'll save a fortune!!

Thats not quite a valid argument though, you pay to enter Stoney, as proved last summer when people were actually parking on the street and paying as they walked down from the street to the water!
Whereas the car park at Portland is just a car park, not an entry requirement for getting on a boat.

Hey Ratty, wasn't really meant to be an arguement, just an observation. Bet people have done it though!!

I don't disagree with you there, especially with those two handy parking spaces where the old gateway in used to be
Mind you, these days they have attendants up in the top car park most of the day, so I don't think you'd get away with it now!
