Castletown parking - a polite request

Parking in Castletown has become a bit of a nightmare for us residents due to divers not using the public car parks provided but parking outside our homes instead. Ths means that we often have nowhere to park and some of us are ending up with parking tickets- see the attached pics!

I know that there is no parking restriction along the road and that the divers are doing nothing wrong legally, bit please use the proper car parks provided to help the residents out!

With Thanks

Phil

thats a good point guys, its not good to alienate the indigenous population, and chances are that the public car parks are under cctv 24/7.
I muself do not dive that particular area but i do try to park as courtiously as i can

If the car park wasn't such a rip off, people might park there as it's nearer. But at 6 quid a day, not going to happen, is it?

That's the issue! Councils up and down the country are royally shafting people with parking charges. Local residents and businesses suffer as much as the poor buggers getting ripped-off.

Phil, take the issue to the local council. Tell them that visitors are coming to the area to spend money on local services and in local shops, pubs & restaurants and, as a result, contribute to the local economy.

To be honest £6 per day is not bad, comparing it to parking charges elsewhere. Just over by the council offices it can cost even more!

Portland and Weymouth have always been a rip off though. And every year they seem to paint more and more yellow lines. Not everywhere is that same. Parking at Mountbatten in Plymouth is free. Think I paid about a quid in Penzance.

I don't believe that parking's got any worse around Portland. People always used to park in the road before going in the car park. The only difference these days is that there's not nearly the number of divers going there anymore. It used to be that the road and the car park were full.

if its unrestricted then theres not a lot you can do really

if theres space on the road vs. £6 for the day in the carpark, guess which one most people would choose?

unfortunately thats life I'm afraid, rather than getting a parking notice, you could always use the carpark

if I was in your position, I'd be pushing the council for a residents parking scheme

It is enough to make me think twice about using a pay and display car park. The chances of my having £6 in change is pretty remote too.

I do feel sorry for the residents just not sure it is £6 a day sorry.

I'd be pushing them to lower the parking charges. £3 a day in our village and it is a lot busier than Castle Town.
