I'm dealing with a mentalist!!!

I bought a PDA off ebay 6 weeks ago, it has gone missing in the post, however the bloke said it was recorded and insured so all should be fine. During the long spell of communication (this bloke never answered an email for a week even though it was meant to be 3 day delivery) i mentioned to him that Royal Mail have "lost" things before, a jotron strobe amongst other things, and i said that someone must be theiving stuff in Royal Mail for it to happen so frequent.

I have asked for a refund for 2 weeks, he is making it a police matter and he wants names from me of people in Royal Mail who are theving stuff! What?
His missus is a copper and he is just refusing to refund me. Paypal are involved but my frear is that they will let it go when he starts his rants regarding the Police.

I would have thought Paypal should refund me and leave him to his own personal crusade against Royal Mail

His feedback was mixed, so I feel stupid for buying!

If the package was insured and recorded delivery, the seller should be taking this up directly with Royal Mail. Have you got the package tracking number off him? If so, you can check the status of delivery on the Royal Mail website.

Exactly, i have told him this. He keeps asking me for names of people in Royal Mail who are the theives and that it is now a Police matter, everytime i email him telling him that it was my opinon and i dont know anyone he just keeps repeating himself!

Its so frustrating, what does he expect to achieve, are him and his missus going to investigate Royal Mail?

He has been abrupt from the outset, i have given him my phone number but he has refused to call. 6 weeks is taking the piss, i just hope paypal are more understanding...

You have no proof that his missus is in the Police, or that he has contacted the police at all. I would tell him that I'm happy to help the police with any investigation, but I'd only speak to the police officer undertaking the investigation.

I have given him my number and told him I am more that happy to assist in any investigation.

To be honest what copper worth their salt would even consider this Police business...

What Janos said, also if he has reported the matter to police, ask him for the incident number, he should have been given one when he reported the 'theft'

As for the police, they must check out any & all claims of theft....how quickly is anyones guess

He did say he has already reported this to the police, i have requested a copy if the incident number for my records. I can't believe someone can be so obstructive and unwilling to refund my money.
When paypal issue a refund is it the seller who pays or paypal?

Email him stating you will report him for theft....make sure you do though, then give him the incident number

looks like you may loose your PDA & your cash, PAYPAL are rubbish when it comes to things like this, you are told you have protection, but its like getting blood from a stone, i've been there!

I think he's just delaying. Ignore all the police stuff and concentrate on settling the matterthrough Paypal. If you open a none receipt of goods dispute with them it has to be sorted one way or the other within 20 days or they will just close the case. The PO will not be able to track the goods if they are just sent recorded delivery. Recorded delivery only records when the item has been delivered and someone has signed for it. It is not a detailed tracking system of when the item arrives and leaves various sorting offices that is special delivery. I'd push for a refund through Paypal as I think this guy is just taking the pi$$

Hi Nick,

Maybe he is stalling so you cannot leave bad feedback or raise a formal dispute on ebay or Paypal , I thought I had the same with skegs and pump for the yak - but it all turned out in the end. ( even tho the seler was no longer a registered eBayer by then ..... I only had ( and had passed ) 60 days to raise an eBay dispute and the item itself disapeared from eBay

Give him a (small ) number of days and then escalate it. If he wont give you the tracking number then I would doubt there is one. See what else he is selling and suggest he is in for -
eBay dispute,
eBay bad feedback,
Paypal dispute,
report him to his police authority
- if he's a copper he wont like that,
if he's not, then it's an offence to claim to be - especially in respect to his own maybe criminal activities.
But be prepared to get little - if any - help.

Or, of course, it could turn up and all's well,

Fingers crossed...
