I last went in 1998 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

So the question... What would you recommend visiting? Might be a special little something that you found hidden away? Might be a world famous tourist attraction?

What are those MUST SEE places to visit?

Cheers!

New York Dolls...

(There's quite a few comedy clubs around time square too - the guys are normally handing out flyers...!) Oh, and avoid ESPN bar! $27 for three pints - and that was when exchange rate was around 1.4!!!

Oooo, some good stuff there! (Especially on Woz's threads!)

How do you go about sorting out the helicopter flight. That sounds fantastic!! How long do you get in the air?

I wouldn't know how to sort it out in NY, we took a heli ride round the rockies in 2001 which was absolutely spectacular, and we just walked into the building and booked & went within half an hour. We were up there for about an hour I think.

Have a good trip

Do the empire state twice, once during the day, then again at night. The night views are fantastic.

central park is lovely to walk through.

brooklyn bridge - got some great views and an impressive piece of engineering.

we got a travel pass when we were there for all the subs and buses and one afternoon just rode the buses all over manhatten - ideal for resting sore feet and covering as much distance as possible.

people watching from starbucks in times square.

The top of the Rockerfeller Centre is fantastic with a lovely view of Central Park.

For food: The Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. My oh my can they make a burger (I can recomend the Shack Stack)! And the cheesy chips! And the milkshakes!

Now I need to wipe the drool of me keyboard...

I second that. I always loved the Empire State building when I went to NY and never thought you could beat it - until I did the new Top Of The World viewing platform at the Rockefeller. It has amazing views, the best of which being downtown with the Empire State bang in front of you - beautiful.

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset is a must (very romantic ),
Ground Zero is also worth a look, the UN building is really interesting and just generally mooching around the different districts - I like SoHo best! Ooh and I had a fab meal out in the meatpacking district - although I forget the name of the restaurant! If you have time you may enjoy a trip out to Coney Island for some old style seaside fun and the aquarium!

Museums wise the Metropolitan is great, although set aside a tonne of time for this and you are also near the park and zoo if you wanted to combine. My favourite gallery is Moma, but I would give the Guggenheim a miss - the building is great, but the content less so.

I could go on and on....

Enjoy

The Frick Collection/museum is stunning and not huge so you see some superb stuff but don't get overloaded. It is close to the gugenheim as previously posted great building but the contents were a bit disapointing.

Walk around central park best done in bits-it is huge.

Statue of Liberty and Ground zero are musts.

Empire State was OK but a complete sardine can experience and it took forever to get up it (1.5 hrs) and the queue was apparently short!!!

Something different there is a museum housed on an aircraft carrier which also has a concorde on a barge and lots and lots of fairly recent fighters. This is on the west side of Manhatten west of Times square.

hope this helps! enjoy...........
