Helen, I sympathise - I have a tendency to lose my voice when I get a heavy cold. One of the strangest incidents I had was when I had a business trip to Paris. I got up at 4.00AM, taking care not to disturb my wife, drove to Heathrow not having to speak to anyone until I got to the check-in desk and when I tried to speak, nothing came out! I felt such an idiot. It was too late to cancel the meeting so I had to conduct all the business that day in writing!

Hope you recover soon.

Well, the day gets more interesting. My voice is nothind more than a very, very, very hushed whisper now and it hurts to speak. We've just been to the supermarket and I had to mime the aisles that I needed to go to. For example, I needed shampoo so I mimed washing my hair. I'm awfully pleased that on this occasion I didn't need toilet roll!

Yesterday I sounded sexy like Marialla Frostrup. Today, the Hoarse Whisperer

Don't you just walk up and down every aisle filling the trolley as you go?
You should've just written him a list and seen what he brought back. That is always good for a giggle.... when you can giggle, of course
