I've (on occasions) canoed/instructed/coached on this bit of river pretty well weekly throughout the summer for the past 20 years!!

Yeah, chilly, too - get's the lifeboats busy, at least. In the past I've stood (glass in hand) on our (communal, civil service employer; I only rowed for one term at university, 30 yrs ago, after being made to drink lots of strong drink then sign bits of paper - it's how it's done!) rowing club slipway by Barnes Bridge and had to run very quickly backwards to avoid the walls of water thrown up by the posse.

Oh well, that's over for another year...!

OK, so I have taken all of your advice, and I am sitting here having had a earlier, and several G&T's since. I still feel crud, but at least its an alcohol blurred crud now though

If someone could actually come up with a cureall for the common cold they would be millionaires overnight !
