Personally, I have no problems with 'soz' and 'peeps' and use them myself but I detest text-speak when it's used as general communication

Indeed. I rather favour the viewpoint that such vulgar contractions tend to indicate a general decline in standards. One might even be perplexed by the true nature and meaning of this aberration believing it therefore to be an ageist attempt to poke humour at those of us whom, one concedes, are rather longer in the tooth than we might wish to be. Sadly, I must conclude that it is a feature of human existence that the generations find themselves "separated by a common language".
