I spent 10 years working in horse racing. I rode over National Hunt fences both in point to points and under rules. I also had a few spins on the flat. I worked for some top class trainers too.
Looking after and exercising racehorses is a 7 day a week, 365 day a year job. I have shovelled their shit, been put into hospital, sat up all night with them when they had colic, fed them before I got my own meals...
They are bred to be athletes and they know no different. The risks they take are no more than the risks we do. I can assure YOU - ODIN - that nobody is ever more heartbroken than the people who actually live and breathe these creatures and consider them part of the family, when they are killed - either in action or tearing around their field in the summer. Accidents happen and the National is no more dangerous than any other race. To call it slaughter is childish, ill informed, warped and quite frankly, f*cking offensive - especially to those who actually spend their lives with these animals. Which, I suspect, you never have had the privelidge of doing.

Wrong - I used to. So I do have insight. Should have asked about that before "Red blobing" me.

Oh really ? Who did you work for then ? Not that I disbelieve you, but people with an 'insight' into racing know better than calling it 'slaughter'. They also know that a scabby claimer at lingfield on the flat, on a thursday afternoon when nobody gives a shit - can be just as dangerous for horses as a 4 mile chase. But I hear no-one jumping up and down and making a hoo hah about that. The National always gets bad press because it's the only race that Joe Public have heard of.
The only horse I ever looked after to get put down was one that kicked out at it's box wall at feeding time and broke it's leg ! I stand by my red because, as it states, I disagree with you. I loved every horse I was involved with and when I took them to the races I in no way felt like I was sending them to 'slaughter'. Clearly for whatever reason, you feel differently. But if you think something is senseless slaughter, then do back up your statement.

p.s Is it normal for you to call a woman a tosser Odin ?? That wasn't very nice !
And I was not 'gobbing off' - I had spent the time to voice my opinion and back it up with fact. This is something you have yet to do.
