Exclamation Delivery Offer - Reading to NE and back again.

On Sunday 13 April I'm heading off to the North East from Reading and back again on the same day. Mini-Dazs is going up there to stay with the Ex-Out-Laws.

My route is from Reading (either via High Wycombe OR along the M4 to junc 13, up the A34 to the M40. Then on to the M42, A42, M1, M18, A1M to Thirsk then up the A19 to Seaham, Co Durham. Not quite as far as Buoyant Babe land, but not far off!

If anyone wants anything transporting from here (or who can get it to me before Sunday) to any of the places I pass (preferably agreeing to meet me at a service station or just off the main roads I'm on, cos it's a bloomin' long way to do on my own in a day!!) then I'll gladly deliver anything en route - well that'll fit in the back of the car!!!

Nah, give the M18 a miss, just keep on going up the M1, it'll change into the A1 on it's own these days.

I'd agree with that... I go to my parents on Wednesday (oh help me, help me) who live near St Ockton... that sleepy little fishing village on the banks of the river Tees and my route is always:
M40, A43, M1, A1 A19.

i remember the days when the A43 past Silverstone wasn't dual carriageway
Edit: there and back in a day... urgh. I did Bolton there and back in a day and if it hadn't been for the R&R at the Reebok after a meeting it would have been unbearable! Take care driving that distance all at once

Naa stick with the M18/A1, its ~20 mins shorter I think. I use this to get to My folks in Garforth. Quicker than driving round Sheffeild...

Thanks for the route advice. I'm an old fashioned girl and use a good old map book rather than SatNav. I like to see the journey in front of me. We also used to go to Seaham every month when we were together and did just about every route you could imagine and more to try to find the best one. The one I said "was" the best, but I accept that in the 8 years since I did the journey things have changed a bit!

I'll chat with the ex, he went up a week ago, and I'll read through the map book. Never done the A43. That sounds interesting. Didn't like continuing up the M1 without coming off at the M18 purely because it made the M1 tedious. However, I'll bow to advice if I like the routes given after perusing the map book.

As for knackering. Yeah, I know, I've done it a few times! Thank god for rock music! The dogs will come with me too for company! Shame I can't train Rogan to drive!

Hi Julie,

I expect to be in / around Reading later this year on one of my infrequent visits back to UK. Is there any diving nearby, or is it a case of trekking down to the coast?

John

We have to trek to the coast, but if you follow the club link in my sig, we should have some diving going on. In about 2 hours to drive to most bits of the coast, you can get anywhere from Brighton area to Portland, so we have a pretty good choice.

If you let me know when you are coming, and what you want to do, we can probably sort something out. If you need to hire kit, my LDS will be able to hire anything you need.

Oh... if you want inland stuff, we do have Wraysbury nearby (25 mins from my house) and Stoney (108 miles) Chepstow 98 miles and if you want to spend 3 hours getting there, you can go to Vobster.

Having done a route from me to Stoney the week before last I went the A1, M18 ans M1 as I've always done so in the past and never had a problem.

I'd stick to what you know.

Only my 2p worth.
