| Does your local authority have a fitness facility? I've just joined ours. I get a slight staff discount but for £28 a month I get to use a fantastically equipped gym only a mile from my house. I can also use two other gyms in the Borough. In addition I can use two swimming pools as well. I'm addicted! Good luck with your fitness quest Helen xxx

| I found JJB to be excellent value for money, used to be a member at Esporta and save myself around £40 per month, £28 at JJB vs £65-70 at Esporta. Gyms are only good value if you are going to go more than twice a week, otherwise go to your local leisure centre.

I don't know if they've caught on yet, but if you join the HQ in Wigan then it's a few quid cheaper over the standard rate but you still get to use any gym.

| Liverpool City Council have spent loads of our money building a very nice huge swimming pool 100m from my house. And only about half a dozen people use it. Far cheaper than your David Lloyds or whatever and just as nice. |

| The power plate is a vibrating platform that you stand, sit, lay on and wobble, apparently it's really good for loads of things, nearly had my fillings out when I tried it, gives the old meat and two veg a good old shaking too. I pay 20quid at Aycliffe gym and it's great, even has a power plate. Watch any contracts that you sign up to, I've read/watched loads of horror stories about problems getting out of them. Try swimming, it's great. MyM Power plate link Welcome to Power PlateĀ®
