Is this right? Can you actually eat spider crabs? They seem like they are a little more (stupid) easy to catch than the big buggers with claws but I always believed they were bad eating. I've missed a trick here if you can eat them.

I had some spider-crab meat at a bbq once (it's sold in lots of places as 'snowcrab') and it was delicious - sweeter than ordinary crab-meat. I think you can only eat the leg meat, but I might be wrong.

In that case we should all get on board the Kirstie crusade and eat some spider crab

Spider crabs make great eating but you don't get as much meat out of them and it's a lot more work than a brown crab.

If it weren't for spider crabs I'd have seen naff all on saturday. I think they are rather cute in their own sweet way.

There isn't much in them apart from leg and claw meat so it's a waste of energy to try and get the carapace meat although it's edible.

I with Kirstie - spider craps remind me too much of the facehugger from the movie Alien .

Last year Swanage pier was full of the bloody things, I have dived with sharks and sea snakes but I HATE Spider crabs.

Never really got on with eating them- lobsters are much nicer

Have you had some horrible experience with a spider crab...?

Spider crabs are cool. You can put them on other divers' heads and they will wrap themselves around a first stage and won't let go. Yes, I'm childish like that. I always thought there wasn't much meat in them though. Maybe a ploy to avoid being eaten by Kirstie.
