| Imported post Sounds like an extract from the four yorkshiremen sketch, but as kids we were encouraged on a sunday, about an hour before dinner (it weren't called lunch back then when ah were a lad I discovered, as an adult, that this was so that when it came time to dish up we wouldn't be as hungry and the roast would go further, (same as proper yorkshire pudding served as a starter) but ee by gum we were 'appier then when we 'ad nowt, nay lad, because we ad nowt! etc etc Anyhoo.... anyone else have fond memories of sarsaparilla tablets ? Or chips in newspaper wrappers, sigh... |

| Imported post <font color='#0000FF'>I used to love brown bread sandwiches containing banana and honey. Great if out hill walking. For getting rid of a hangover (maybe not a childhood food, but still a comfort foood) I used to like left-over spaghetti pasta microwaved and covered in sugar with cinnamon - great!

| Imported post Bread in dripping, mmmm, mmmm! You used to be able to get a bread roll in dripping from the "burger and sweets" van that parked outside the school gates when I was a nipper. It was called a "dip", and at 10p was the best way to get something foodlike with your dinner money and have the max left for "cets" (Co Durham for sweets) And sarsparilla tablets Stevie boy! Fantastic! I once made a load of sarsparilla pop from some kit - ended up with about 15 2 litre bottles of the stuff, which was pretty rank to be honest, and most of them were so fizzy they were "auto emptying" the minute you took the cork out. Ah.... happy days Army and Navy tablets were the dogs too, and (praise be!), you can still get them! I might buy some tonight on my way home from school, er......
