Without a diagnosis of which nerve is trapped and what the consequences might be, leave it alone. If it were serious you would have been seen as an emergency rather than bunged on a waiting list. Initial consultation will involve asking you lots of questions, testing your sensations, reflexes, muscle tone and moving your arms and legs about to see which movements cause pain or numbness. You might be sent for a scan. It might get better while you are waiting for all this to happen. A trapped nerve in your neck may cause pins and needles or referred pain to your arm, head, hand or fingers. Sometimes it can be caused by muscular or posture problems, sometimes it can becaused by trauma or degenerative changes (which we all get as we get older). There are various treatments depending on who sees you and what discipline they prefer. You may be referred to a physio or told to remain active and take painkillers. It depends whether you see a neuro doc, an orthopaedic doc or a pain specialist and what they recommend. There are a lot of different answers to your question!!

| Here's a stretching exercise I do, that is recommended by my chiropractor (PV - they don't all click bones!). Stand up and look at your left boob. Take left hand and place hand on right side of your head, your arm going over your head. Now, slowly pull your head towards your left shoulder whilst still looking at your left boob. Try and hold this for at least 20 seconds or so and pull a bit more. But, if any sharp pain, then work up the stretch slowly. Repeat with looking at right boob, right arm, etc. Since I've been doing these, I've stopped getting bad spasms and my fingers don't tingle so bad. HTH's, Lou
