car door handle

The passenger interier door handle, does not spring back into its closed position. You can push it into place, but the central locking will not work. Ive removed the car battery to reset the system, but I think that the handle has come away from a spring or latch so it does not lock and this is stopping the central locking from working. Im going to remove the door trim in the morning, but just wondered if anyone else could suggest what the cause might be

My experience with interor trim is its a pain in the arse to remove or replace without breaking it. Try asking a freindley non dealership garage to have a look. My local place replaced my faulty solonoids to repair my rear doors which would not open for £22 each plus an hours labour. You would not have known they had been in there afterwards.

Telling us what sort of car you have might help us be more specific but......

If one lock is out of sync a lot of central locking systems will not work. So lock them all manually and then use the key. See what happens.

You wrote 'door handle' not 'door lock' so there is usually a spring that pulls the handle back in. It could be at either end or even on the lock mechanism. You will have to remove the dor panel to find out. How to do this depends on the car make and model.
