Bloody Royal Mail

Sold my lovely PDA phone through the YD forum for a decent price, intending to put the cash towards my first set of regulators. The thing was working when it went in the packaging and wasn't working when it arrived at the other end and now I have to go through the bloody protracted process of claiming off the postal insurance for the phone and hoping they'll pay up as it has no outward signs of damage.

Sorry to hear that. I miss Royal Mail though. You will never appreciate it until you live with Egyptian Mail

Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

A. So the sea urchin could see her chin!

You have my sympathies! I have just gone through a very similar thing with a phone I sold on eBay. Phone was working fine when I sent it. Then I get an e-mail from the buyer to saying people he called could hear him, but he couldn't hear them! I gave him a list of suggestions of how to alter the settings, but he accused me of sending him faulty goods and demanded his money back. I informed him that the phone was working when I sent it and that I could only assume it had been damaged in the post. I popped into the post office to find out what compensation I/he was entitled to. This is the bad news - unless you took out insurance at the time of posting, you are only covered up to £36!!! They give you a form to fill in and apparently it takes months for you to get your 36 quid!

In the end my guy contacted PayPal and they told me I had to give him a refund and he had to return the phone to me. When I got the phone back it was working fine - he hadn't increased the volume button on the handset!!!!! I have now resold it, but what a hassle in the mean time! I'm just grateful I didn't have to go down the Royal Mail claims route - not that that's much consolation to you

I sent the phone special delivery so I believe it has up to £250 insurance, and I sold it for about 110 + P&P so I should hopefully get it back - my phone won't load past the splash screen and it doesn't seem like they can use the reset button which to me sounds like my phone has been well and truly bricked.

Now I have to wait to buy my regs, which is a pain in the arse as I have a dive trip coming up in three weeks.

Well at least it sounds like you're covered for the value of the phone, but you're right, it's a b*gger until all that is processed! My impression is that the Royal Mail don't rush over such things as handing over their money...

Good luck!

Im not sure even egyptian mail routinely open and steal mail. Most weeks some mail arrives here ever opened, opened in a sealed RM apology bag or arrives months later.
Anything that looks like a birthday card or might contain money often takes weeks to arrive and eventually comes having been opened.
Beware getting items in a jiffy bag as they've almost certainly been "checked".

Report it. Theres in "investigation" but they cant tell you the results for confidentiality reasons. The stealing stops for a month or 2 then resumes.

Been going on for 3years or more now.

They're working on a solution to this problem in our local area.

They've decided to close all the village post offices, so you won't be able to post any parcels, and thereby reduces the likelihood of some thieving postie pilfering anything that looks enticing.

Wish they'd pilfer all the junk mail they get paid to deliver.

And why is it that I get 1 delivery of post at about .....11am.

How can that be first class?

grr

Blimme I didn't know that! Think I will go and give our postie a big kiss.
