The Fan Dance

'The Fan Dance' in assoc. SAS survival
07 Jun 2008 - £45
Pen Y Fan is the biggest mountain in South Wales, and the Army has long felt the need to make recruits race up and down its steep rocky slopes! Now you can experience this lung-bursting pleasure for yourself on one of the classic Test Routes...with one big difference - you get to relax at the end of the day!

Thinking about actually taking Garf's advice

Anyone else interested in having a go?

Enjoy

I've done it enough times with fighting order, helmet and weapon to not have any interest at all in doing it again

That should read carrying 45 Pounds in kit not £

The bit about recruits is only the start as you do it with more kit and faster as you move up through the ranks on your Battle Courses

The finish at the Storey Arms is great till you have to do lots of other tasks as well

Agreed.
We used to do a log race up & down that bugger. Massive telegraph pole with rope handles. When the rope used to chafe the skin off your hands then it would be up on the shoulders for a mile or so....
Not sure i'd be keen to go back and run it 'for fun'

Done it 5 or 6 times, usually with Fan Y Beg and Crebyn included, great walk but I wouldn't want to try and run it.... good luck
This was taken coming down from Pen Y Fan heading toward Fan Y Beg

I thought it was 75lbs tbh. And for clarification, my advice was along the lines of "I think you've got to be f**king certifiable to actually PAY to do this"
