But for arguments sake it is a style of diving. Then isn't PADI's dive today a style of diving too and I don't see a section for that. I am sure BSAC and the other agencies have a name for their style but were is there forum. DIR fundamentals is the instructor a fundamentalist? Sometimes is seem to be getting that way. Almost a dive our way or die message. I am not against DIR per say or any other training agency oh sorry that should be GUE. It does seem to be taking over the board a lot more since when I started posting. Maybe its because its shiny and new to people and they want to know more, that other divers are not as vocal or maybe because other divers are a not posting because they think they will get shot down in flames by DIR/GUE divers. Just some more thoughts on the subject |

| Speaking as a 'newly' qualified diver and definite 'stroke'; I think the DIR philosophy has a great deal of good to offer. Things like the importance of the team, buoyancy control, certain standards in equipment and its configuration all make sense. What I don't appreciate (and I know I'm not alone in this) is the 'them and us mentality; and the attitude that DIR training is the answer to all diving ills; starting with DIR-F. By all means keep the DIR sub-forum. There is no need for individual agency forums; and there are always the 'I learned about diving from that' and DIFF sub fora for us strokes. my 2p

Buoyancy control is taught in all agencies. CCR divers have to learn it twice! Standards in equipment - Cylinder(s) BC/wing/DV, freedom of thought? Configuration - taught in my BSAC branch (I hate danglies!) So not unique to any particular agency.

If there was a request for PADI, BSAC, TDI, IANTD specific forums to be able to discuss agency specific topics then I'm sure that would be considered, but there doesn't seem to be a big demand for that. To be honest I'm not particularly fussed either way. DIRx provides somewhere that is entirely DIR-focussed and YD provides a broader diving view for me. I'm happy to point out where my responses are specifically based on the DIR approach and people are free to decide whether it makes sense to them or not. And just because I've missed his saying: It's all bollox anyway |

| I'd just like to put it on record that I have no opinion, one way or the other, on this subject. |
