How does that work for newer members, though?

TIA
Mal

I'd say because most non DIRers in that section start their post with, I'm not DIR but.....

Safe diving,

Not sure what prompted Garf's proposal but I think it is a shame he even thought it needed mentioning.

If my memory serves me correctly Andy Carrol obviously with the approval of the YD Admins of the day asked for the sub forum to be set up so that people with an interest could look up information and asked specific questions from people who might actually know the answer

It isn't an agency forum so the arguments for a BSAC and PADI ones have been done before are irrelevant.

I don't think this even warrants discussion and this would still be my view if I didn't have more than a little interest in the subject.

I don't see anyone saying shall we get rid of some of the rebreather sections, if I was interested in those I would seek advice there.

The way I see it is at the moment there is imblance which should be addressed. Well that's my 2p not very well put but then beers have been drunk
Surely a forum is made of content provided by people who post? If so then the content has nothing to do with balance - this isn't a party polictical platform it's a diving forum. The reason there is DIR content is there are DIR divers who post on the board.

If you want a sub-forum then ask for one but at least have a topic that people will post about (preferrably diving related).

It is a shame we are seen as separate but the board gets silly if it's not. As it is I don't see why my opinion on say trimix diving should be constrained to one sub-forum.

These days I can even post in the Rebreather section

Right - I think I've come up with a happy compromise.

For general DIR vs Strokes nastiness / banter / heated debate - we continue to use the general YD forums.

In this context - all Fundamentalists should start their post with the words: "We". In this way the tone is set right from the off: both condescending and patronising at the same time.

All Strokes should try and pick every opportunity to turn any reasonable discussion by any of the DIR mob into a full blown fight. For example: If Mal were to post: "I've just been burgled - my whole house has been turned upside down" - Steve S should come back immediately with "Oh you don't mind having your house turned upside down - but you resent me doing it to my cylinders..."

The DIR Forum will be reserved for DIR "activists" to say the really outrageous and provocative stuff without any right for Stroke comeback whatsoever. Think of it as the GUE Embassy - sovereign territory where we are exempt from scrutiny.

Posts here should be of a really confrontational and unreasonable nature, using the words "Death" and "Bodybag" as much as possible. Regurgitated George Irvine III expressions like "Farm Animal Stupidity" and "Star Wars Bar Room Scene" should feature strongly. Somewhere to really stick the knife in when another rebreather diver or deep air merchant has had an unfortunate incident. This forum will be both a compassion and milk of human kindness free zone.

As you were
