I'm new here, -ish, here's my take....

I think there really has to be a seperate section for DIR, CCR, and cave.

why?

Its because us newbs come here for the crazed banter, but unfortunately end up learning stuff about diving. Sad its true, but it cant be helped.
All those minority interest techniques are SO different than the normal recreational that if they were all mushed together we might start to think that it was normal to dive like a Busby Berkely musical, or to trim like a stoned ninja on acid, or we'd be wondering why it was useful to have a cheap source of lime. What's wrong with lemon?

So I'm in general agreement with Howard the ninja

This is where we diverge. This is Yorkshire Divers, not di(r)vergence divers.
YI'd have thought you're going to have to accept the occasional raid - , ahem - er ah, honest questioning and interest or it wouldnt be YD.

Ah yes, back on track now.........and there was still milk and buttered scones for tea, and the gentle clanck of tank on rigging.....and all was well with the world.

Sorry I haven't read every post and this may have been said, but, do we have a PADI/BSAC/TDI forum? It's just another training agency. Having kit specific forums like CCR or cylinders is fine as most teach you how to use those, having agency forums you should either have all or none.

I see where your coming from there Okeanos, but its not strictly about agency is it?

BSAC and PADI and the others are 'just' teaching people to dive. Remember when there was 'just' diving. As in getting wet?

If you had a sample of divers from all those other agencys together they could all dive the same 5m puddle together and it would work.
Put some dir divers in there with them and it wouldnt work
cos the borg dont 'just' dive. Even a 5m bimble done dir is totally different.

Thats why I think they still need a safe place for wierd minorities.
Why think of it as an agency thing? Why not think of it as a dive mindset thing?

PADI and BSAC are just agencies - DIR is both a religion and lifestyle choice at the same time. We also have an annoying range of leisurewear

Mark's right -why isn't there a PADI and BSAC forum?

As Phill said a few posts ago, GUE, PADI, BSAC, TDI are agencies, DIR is a style of diving.

So... to even it up, we should have a Stroke forum, in which we can debate various strokey styles of diving. All threads must be started off... I am not a stroke, but...

Well, if there was a PADI forum, we'd all have to pay $$$$ per post.

PADI Adventures in Forums - I can see it now. . . . .

All this deep air must have addled my brain but that's what we have now isn't it, where is the proposed change?

Safe diving,
