Proposal for Change to YD

Hi All

The DIR Forum ands Sub Forum.

I think we should ask Jay if he would be willing to get rid of them. I think it is just another mechamism for creating a "them" and "us" situation. If people want a DIR answer they can ask a DIR Diver. DIR divers should be able up with other divers and shouldn't need a place of their own. There's a few of us on here now and we're vocal enough.

What do you think?

No need, they'll just go quiet when you're all dead

I suppose thats a valid point, and well made. I guess they do give someone a place to learn DIR from, without having to sift through everything else.

But we are quiet anyway..not like you noisy lot!

Some people do not want to read about DIR/Rebreathers/Caves/ I think the sub forums allow us to "Opt-Out" from the things we do not want taling up space on the page.

Hi Garf,

Dose this have something to do with me taking the pssi a bit heavy recently?
If so, I am sorry, but you don't have to close the DIR forum over it

If a DIR diver wants to come out of the closet, I don't think they should get rid of it altogether. What about the ones that are still too ashamed to show themselves

But seriously now. I have a DIR specific question I will be posting today and would REALLY prefer that it be in a dir specific forum.

Its a bit like televison, if you dont want to watch a certain program you can change channels or switch the box off. We all know that if you read a thread in the DIR section it will be about that style of diving, if you dont like reading / hearing about it then dont read it quite simple really.

Well although I read YD via 'New Posts' I use the 'DIR forum' tag as a marker of somewhere where I should not reply to questions as people are asking for a distinctive style of answer.

Now we accept that YD is a hunting ground for DIR to try and attract new converts to its fold but those of us who have passed beyond that would prefer not have it quite as 'in-yer-face' as abolishing their own little enclave would make it.

Similarly rebreathers need their own bolt hole. If I want to discuss alpinist solo decompression techniques I want to do it somewhere without giving offence to sincerely held beliefs.

Nothing to discuss - I believe Mr Parker dives that way
