Hmmmmmm I am sure Sean was in an Octavia (I am sure he will correct me)yesterday and it was a very comfortable drive. I just wish he wouldnt drive it at over 100 mph and drink from a bott e of water at the same time. Sitting int he back made me nervous. But boot had plenty room for 2 divers kits including box and 3 cylinders.

A fcukin' skoda? Yasmin, wash your mouth out with soap

It's a Toyota Avensis, 2 litre but manual

An' am sure we were marginally under 100 anyway sorry, but take comfort in the fact that my bumper scratch is the only damage i've done in 20 years and well over a million miles

Ok, i'll slow down next time

I knew you would correct me on the car if I got it wrong, car recognition was never my stronger point. Sean it wasnt a criticism of your driving as I wouldnt dare do that as you might not give me a lift ever again.

Just out of interest why automatic as a must have? It conflicts directly with good fuel economy. A manual driven properly is much more fuel efficient.

I automatic is because I have dodgy knees and occasionally the left one locks bent, if it does I can't go anywhere not a problem if I am at home, if I am not at home I wouldn't be able to drive home.

Just found out there are virtually no Honda Accord Tourers as they are changing the model - so that one is probably a no. And I may have to compromise on the diesel / automatic. So a dealership has agreed I can test drive a manual on a longish run next week.

If only I hadn't asked Howard about the Merc

I am on my second Vauxhall Signum, not the prettiest car in the world, current model is 1.9 cdti 150 bhp Auto. I am not that conservative with my right foot and get close to 50mpg. An economical driver would easy break the 50 mark.

I am not sure, but I think they are phasing them out or already have done. Certainly bargains to be had. But bang for buck you get a lot of car. Sat Nav, leather etc. Flat load space also.

I have had the current one for just over 2years - 70 thousand miles with only other costs being servicing brakes and tyres.

until october this year when the rules all change.

I had a 4litre cherokee LPG until march , it was going to cost the same to go into the zone in that 12 year old motor as a new Jeep 3 litre diesel .

the tax is dearer on the new one as it has the CO2 footprint of a small african country but the mpg figures are a lot better. as i posted earlier even if it goes to £500 a year thats still only a tenner a week. I could smoke and drink a tenner a day without tryiing so I am still 'up' on the deal.

again work pay for fuel so thats not an issue

oh and to answer fionas post

a renault scenic is a good vehicle , i was surprised at how much gear Kath can get in hers and its easy for kitting up too.

failing that get a skoda estate diesel with a service history ( cam belt change according to the book is Essential as were regular oil changes)

I had had a Honda FRV for nearly 3 years now...and it is truly a great little car.

It has never let me down once, pretty good on petrol, great fun to drive, loads of space and Honda service is second to none.

You can always fold the middle front seat down and make the worlds biggest armrest?!

I reckon you should give one a try

SWMBO has the 1.9 TDi and it goes like sheesh of a shovel. if its sluggish then he can't drive one properly.
