<font color='#0000FF'>Can't wait to see the film.

Can't wait to buy it on DVD.

Can't wait to buy the extended DVD three months later.

Will probably buy the boxed set of all three films three months after that.

I actually did try and read the books when I was younger, but I was never really caught by all that fantasy stuff. &nbsp;Too much walking and fighting.... &nbsp;. &nbsp;I thought (mistakenly) that the condensed, live action version might be a bit pacier and more exciting.

I was *very* annoyed that it won the Big Read - I'm convinced that was because of the film, rather than the book. &nbsp; There were far better books on the list.

Steve, I did warn you I was about to commit a gross act of treason......sorry! &nbsp;

Lou

i think it actually won another 'big-read' style thing a while ago.... before the films were made. ok, so you don't like it, which is fine, but loads of people do love the books, and they've been extremely popular for years and years - so i don't really think it's fair to say they won because of the films

yes it was very evident that the books that came top of the big read were the ones that had been made into films/adaptations. and yes that will skew the balance a bit because books that have been televised will reach more people. however, why are they chosen to be televised in the first place? because lots of people like them and they're considered to be good books!

<font color='#0000FF'>LOTR is one of those films that have to be seen in a good cinema or DVD/good TV with no distractions. Pure agony would be to watch it in on those airplane screens! My local cinema is a large room in the local firestation, last weekend they showed 'Kill Bill' - that was quite rough of a film.

I will be going to see the third film but, being a purist and a massive fan of the books I'm expecting to be a little peeved at all the extra crap added in to make it more Hollywood.

Haven't seen the film yet but am definitely going over the holiday period.

Now you may have seen or heard about various nutters that run round woods and the like beating up goblins and orcs and stuff....

well I'm one of those, so if you wanna laugh, (or maybe you want to join in?)

have a look at www.bearsfaction.com

The reason behind my sign in name should become apparent!!

Errr... no, sorry Lou but LOTR was voted most popular fiction book.... ever! &nbsp;long long before the recent films were even conceived, in fact probably before you were born young lady

Anyway, AFAIAC, what's &quot;better&quot; or &quot;best&quot; etc is only ever a matter of personal opinion, some folk think Thomas Hardy is the epitome of literature, some think it's Tolkein, some think it's Albert Camus, some think it's James Joyce or Roddy Doyle! ... &nbsp;I say &quot;Vive la difference!&quot; no reason why a person couldn't like any or all equally, depending on the mood they're in that week.

Ah no that has got to be dirty dancing - the biggest pile of crud ever made. &nbsp; My mates raved about it but i didn't see it for years, but what a load of cack!! &nbsp; As a rule i am generally not keen on chick flicks - much prefer a no-brainer e.g. under siege.

Also the big read was about the most popular book, not the best written
