She doesn't eat fat, red meat butter cream etc ...... personally i think its more to do with how your body works. In my mums case there was a suggestion that stress was a factor - diving combats stress so maybe you need to go diving a bit more .....
I'm beginning to understand a bit more about it thanks to the above posts and the internet.

Although, I do love a good conspiracy story - The Cholesterol Farce

TBH, I'm really concerned because I no longer feel healthy, like I used to do. It could just be age ................. I mean, my body is obviously telling me that it has 'had enough'.

I regularly played squash up until I was in my early 40s and ................ now I'm just not really interested in anything .............. even diving is no longer the passion it once was. I suppose that could be mental as much as physical?

In around 2002 I used to cycle around 60 miles per week and my cholesterol was 3.5 I now do no excercise and am still around the same weight and my cholesterol has rocketed up to 6.5.

My diet is actually better than it was, with more fruit and veg than ever before and no microwave ready made meals, but it's gone up anyway I was also instructed not to eat mroe than 2 portions of dairy and red meat A WEEK!!! thats a days worth at best

I'm told that Olive oil can help if you use it in place of lard for frying and I often use it on bread or toast instead of butter. No idea if it's worked cos I'm not going near the Dr in case they tell me something else I didn't want to know . They also told me that it can take a good 6 months to see noticable improvements.

But the biggest factor seems to be excercise in my case, so try getting your arse, sorry try getting your friend to get his arse off the sofa and move about a bit

Arfie

LiamM's prescription for cholesterol reducion: Breakfast each day should be eggs fried in butter and then soak the butter up in fried bread. Followed with a pint of Genius and a big sleep and maybe sex (involving another person if possible). The rest of the day you can eat what you want........
This is almost guaranted to work.....

The single figure for cholesterol does not really mean much, you need the split of HDL and LDL. HDL = good stuff, LDL = bad stuff. Did you (sorry your friend) get the split?

See peanut butter is deadly stuff. Marmite to be taken instead.

I tried the diet, benecol stuff etc and my levels actually went up!
only issue I've had with the statins is that you're not allowed to eat grapefruit
The diet was to replace your previous diet - not in addition to.

yeah. and apparently buying half-fat products doesn't mean you can eat twice as much of them.

Ditto. Man, oh man, does my friend love chicken kebabs (with salad - honest) and lashings of garlic sauce!

F*ck of! My mate said "have you seen the size of his arms?"

Not going to happen.

He's booked in for a 6 monthly check up. TBH, he'd rather not know. He don't want to make old bones anyhow but he don't want to suffer either.

I shall certainly impart that information to my friend.
