Making a Will - example will

Does anyone who has either written their own will, or works in the business have an example will that I could use to base my own against ? I want to write one, as living on my own with no dependants I want to make sure that my stuff goes where I would like it to go.

Anyone got a blank, or a sample that I could base the wording of mine on ?

TIA...

WH Smiths sell DIY will kits.

My wife (a lawyer) suggests that template wills are widely avaiable on t'internet, although she questions why a single person with no dependents would bother, given that intestacy rules are fairly uncontentious in the UK.

Donate to a charity or leave it to HMG. I know what I would chose.

Partly because I want to leave a little to charity, not a huge amount, but I want to make sure that it gets there, and partly just to make sure there is no arguing amongst the non-immediate family. Although I don't think there will be any, as we are a fairly close family, you never know how money can affect people !

If life expectency was to go to plan then I will be the last person in the family, so wouldn't have anyone to leave it to by instestate (at least not direct family), so want to plan things a little and write a will which says which people it is to go to, but that should I survive all of these people then I want X, Y and Z to happen.

Thanks Nickb, I'd looked at the 30 quid one, and was thinking that I can write my own and as long as it is witnessed correctly it doesn't have to cost anything. Plus I can change it if I wish then.

So, I'm looking for sample wording, although I get the impression that this isn't actually *too* vital.

I being of unsound mind etc etc declare that I want to leave a little bit to him, a fraction to her, pennies to them and all the rest to the other half of Team Rudolph. Signed Derek R

Depends I s'pose, is it kit you need to leave to people? By people, I mean ginger forensicators, obviously just to further the work for a nation

nah, I think the DIY kits seem quite comprehensive and as long as signed by someone else of a sound mind are good to go, just remember to send them to the right legal holders, not sure who that is but you can write anything as long as it is signed and sent to the correct people*

I also hear that you can write a cheque on a cow. If it's a biggie though, don't let it run

*this may be a bunch of arse but does sound right
