Alternatively, we could all buy a pair and the money could go to RNLI.
Two really good ideas - as I have just come across a pair of Hermes bowling shoes (completely unworn as too small ) Getting the camera out now!

On slimming down your closet, then I'd say BBs advice is the winner.

but here's a little extra - and this is from one who knows

If its a classic shape, cut or colour, ie red, camel or black, then you can keep it in storage. Likewise things you love.

Otherwise, I would say you really only need four outfits. Two general casual (scruffy) travelling sets, and two slightly classier ones

All the fashiony stuff you get rid of.

When you get back, you can always collect some more if you feel the need to. A year travelling is a great way to see how little you need

If there's any Oscar de la Renta or similar -clothes, bags or shoes - then store it because its valuable. You can always sell it later when you have more time.

Before you start work out where the bin bags of disposable items are going to go so you can despatch them the same day.

My tasteful pink shoes I just want them to be happy..........

Coccinelle, size 38, worn once.

Pura Lopez, size 38, worn once - way too high for my dodgy knee.

Azzurra, size 38, worn once - I felt too girlie in them

They are very nice shoes. They want to be happy, so give them away (or ebay them) to someone who has the occasion to wear them.

Both pairs make my feet ache just looking at them

Well, maybe not the pink ones. They are very nice but I don't really do pink.
