| When I was working for BP I found that we could change our own job titles on the email address directory. I did, and then forgot about it.... ...until a month or two later when my head of department came up to me and asked when I had been promoted to "King and Tyrant"? He found it funny but asked me to change it back

| a friend once foolishly allowed me access to his Royal Society of Chemistry accound for some research I was doing. I discovered you could alter his personal details. He found out later that month when his journal turned up. Addressed to 'wing commander sir nicholas *******'. I thought a peerage and rank sounded quite good.....

| Consultation with the individual is a good way, but in my experience, people like to be given a couple of options.... how about thi, or this, or have you a better idea... sort of thing. In our office, we used to have the job title 'Senior Administrative Officer'. It covered the role, and acknowledged the status.

| If she looks after the computers/electrical things, try something like IT co-ordinator/supervisor. Then again if she is not managing people, she sound like most of the managers I've had in the past, so she could keep the moniker of Manager. Or better yet, tell her she's a bloody secretary and to stop whining and to go and do some work. My favourite title was when I was an insurance clerk, to try and make me feel special, they gave me the title Personal Lines New Business Quotations Manager. (I still did the filing though) Arfie
