| It may well be as easy to get a new powersupply. Just unscrew the 4 screws holding it on at the back, then unplug all the cables from things like your motherboard, DVD/cd(s), Hard drive(s),floppy (ooh eer!) and take the PSU to a local PC shop to get one similar. You should get one for around £20 depending on the model of computer and it's age and power rating. Or wear a low cut top and take the whole machine into the PC shop and get the young spotty boy behind the counter all flustered, then ask him to do it for you Arfie

I had considered that I could just take the whole pc in but as I feel I may now be too old for the "smile sweetly and flutter the eyelashes approach" I'd probably just get stung and may as well go in and just get the right part. ( I actually quite enjoy taking things apart myself and, possibly learning, at the same time )Or perhaps the Mrs Robinson stance .................. ![]() I didn't say that, my pc has fingers of it's own

| If the fan is now running again and the PC isn't shutting down I'd leave it be for now. |

Should I try to get a power supply for when it does die? Oooh Anyone got spare, cheap power supplies knocking around and passing the Bracknell area? If I go again it's died. Scuttler, amongst others, has my number

| OK......well they are dirt cheap anyway Novatech Power Supplies : Components at cheap prices from Novatech.co.uk These guys have a place in Woodley too. Post a pic of the rear of the puter and then pop off the cover and take a pic of the motherboard and p/s and we'll try and identify it for you but I think 400W is probably fine for your PC. |

| The fan bearings wear. They make a racket or stick. When they stick they stop making the racket! Time to get a new one before it dies altogether....and I have seen power supplies fail and take the system board with them. Neil IBM engineer for 25 years but I know nothing about Windows.......
