My PC keeps shutting down

My pc keeps shutting down so before it does it again can anyone tell me if this could be due to a duff power supply as it's much quieter than usual
Fan ??

I have tried running a virus scan but the pc shut down

Could be the fan has stopped running and so the PC shutsdown due to thermal overload.

Right, thanks Makes sense, especially as it's so quiet now and there isn't that usual chilly draft

Could that be due to it needing a clean? Looks bloody dusty in there ! Or just caput?

If caput, are they easier to change (and get hold of) ?

usually they're Kaput

doddle to change.....four screws and plug into p/s or m/b


EDIT: Bear in mind there are two and sometimes three fans. CPU fan is mounted on the processor main fan is at the back of the PC.

Changing the fan is easy peasy.... i managed to do it

The hardestbit was finding the right fan to replace the original one with.

stop pushing the off switch

my old lap top used to do this because i used to sit using it in bed and the duvet would block the fan
but, that isn't happening to your desktop in your living room
unless you are now using in bed

did the cat pee on the extention cable again?

I've opened up the side and hoovered in and around everywhere and it is now making a noise and draft again
Tomorrow I'll see if I can work out what I need to replace and look at that link. I wouldn't hold much hope for me doing this though "Always wear a static electricity discharge strap when working with your PC's components "

To get back to the original topic, if you do replace the power supply, make sure you get the right one, connections and rating (Watts) vary. Well there's two different connection systems depending on how old your mother board is.
