New York - Gordon Ramsay's Resaurant at the London Hotel

Now I know he's not everyones cup of tea,

but I have just got back from New York, I went to the London Hotel for dinner at his restaurant there. According to the local buzz, it is still the place to eat and judging by the full tables and smiling faces as I waked through the main restaurant, this could still be the case.

However, I was with a group of people who thought they were lucky enough to get a reservation in the restaurant itself... what I didn't realise was we were actually being placed at the chefs table in the kitchen itself!

The big man wasn't actually present in NY, so we had been left in the capable hands of his head chef at the London, Marcus (and according to Mrs Doo and the rest of the ladies in the group, a worthy replacement, from an eyecandy perspective!)

We were treated to 10 courses of some of the finest food I have ever tasted, and with our own somellier for the evening, wines that I would never have picked marrying up with the food, provided the most sensational foodie experience I have ever had!
Each course was explained to us by the chef who cooked ti, we were allowed to wander around the kitchen, ask as many questions as we liked, taste anything and everything we liked, I plated up a couple of dishes (for our group!), and Mrs Doo cooked a souffle!

If ever you get the chance to go to NY, and you want a recommendation to go somewhere for food, then its worth trying to get a reservation, although I'm sure it's not the cheapest of venues!

I took SWMBO there back in August. We had Jean Baptiste as Restaurant Director and he gave us a tour of the kitchen Marcus Wareing wasn't the chef at that point it was Josh Emmet??? I think (Aussie bloke). We also got a signed menu.

Truly awesome experience. I'm looking forward to trying Royal Hospital Road next.

The price doesn't hurt quite so much with the current exchange rate though

No... it was something to do with Mrs Doo's work... the whole time away was, Hotel (Essex House, posh), flights (turn left, of course!) and plenty more!

Jean Baptiste was there, came over to say hello... made the girls giggle . The guy who organised it reckons it was better than Royal Hospital Road... I think I'd better try it to find out though!

As for the exchange rate, glad it's lie it is... I know the wine budget alone for the meal was a fortune!
