Cool Crab legs

Being an avid fan of the Deadlist Catch, I just had to try some King Crab legs whilst I was in San Diego.

Well, cheap they ain`t. I went to buy some at the local fishmongers. He said he would only order them in as they were too expensive to hold much stock.

To my horror, he quoted me $25 a pound, but what the hell. When they arrived the next day, he was embarassed to say that a pound of legs was equal to about 2 (legs), so he bought two pounds, but let me have them for $30. Being grateful, I gave him $5 for a couple of beers

We had them at a barbeque that night. They are precooked and only have to be warmed up. We downloaded a simple receipe from the internet.

I`ve got to say, the meat was very tasty, although I`m not sure the cost justified it.

One thing that did impress/terrify me was the size of the legs. God knows what the hell a live one looks like.

Those guys on the Deadlist Catch certainly earn their money, even if it`s only wrestling with several tons of gigantic crabs !

Steve

how big are they? I had a sea food extravaganza in Hawaii a couple of years ago and I think I had them then. Loads of butter and they were lovely. Was a great meal, crab, lobster, prawns etc. Made even better by a septic paying for it :-)

If these are the same as the "Red King Crabs" that are featured on page 47 of the June "Dive" magazine then they are quoted as being 1.5m across and can weigh up to 13kg!!!

Bugger that.......

Each leg was about a foot long on the plate, it was a big plate! They had a huge tray full of them.
