| With the price of fuel going stupid, and my Pimp mobile only doing 25 mpg, I am now looking at my dive sites all becoming more local. Fortunately Plymouth is only 50 miles away!

I do think that price is a significant factor in transport choices though. |

if I had to use public transport to get to Broxbourne from Leytonstone at the time I need to in the morning I would have to get up before I go to bed !!! inside greater london I can use oyster and its capped at about £7 a day. but the outside bit will cost me more than that for the 2 bus journeys I need to get to work never mind the home trip. its too far to cycle unless I want to leave home in the middle of the night.

tank dipped as its diesel but all fuel is paid for by company so no reason to run red. you can remove the dye from the diesel but you need shedloads of powdered chalk

| According to predictions these sorts of prices look likely to stay with us in the medium term- 4-8years. Already I can see car sharing becoming much more important to students as they seek to keep costs down. Trips to the NDAC mean that most people are car sharing. Going to somewhere like Plymouth or Weymouth needs a little more thought but ultimately most people will foot the bill/car share. There isn't really an alternative given the equipment that most of us need to carry around.

Seriously though I can see lots of skippers getting badly hit by people not being able to get to the dive site due to the fuel prices, its expensive enough to drive and get a dive but to get there and be blown out really makes me wonder if booking up a sea dive is a serious option at present. Even diving a local quarry is better than no diving at all. Matt |
