| It's actually against Ofcom's rules to do that (i.e. change volume between adverts and programme) and they can get fined for doing so. That notwithstanding, channels like Challenge, Discovery and Scifi just seem to have a problem with this. I hate it too FWIW. However, I believe I remember reading that the actual volume doesn't change per-se which is how they get away with it - it's to do with the advertisers putting huge compression onto their adverts making them sound louder. But I still think they need to take them to task over it - why should we have to have a device that does that when they're not allowed to do it anyway!!

| I'm waiting for somebody to produce a remote that toggles 50% of the current volume. It will be called the "fuck the bastard advertisers" button. Some interesting stuff from the Advertising Standards Authority here: TV Ad Sound Levels If you want to buy a device, there are some links if you google "volume regulation tv" or "sound regulation tv". Although - I would have thought that regulating the volume to be constant would stop the bits that were supposed to be quiet from being quiet, and the same with the bits that were supposed to be loud.
