Seems to me the "it's only the internet" comment is wheeled out only when it suits.
I disagree, comments designed to hurt, will hurt when said face to face or on the internet, so 'it's only the internet' isn't a carte blanche to post whithout consideration AFAIC.

FYI we get 'concerned' as you put it when a post is reported, offensive, insulting or could have legal ramifications to YD.

Thread/post deletions are never taken lightly and nowadays rarely without discussion with whomever mod is online, spam being the exception.

HTH

Safe diving,
Steve

Guys (mods),
Just to set things straight, I wasn't having a go at mods specifically, I suppose it didn't help that it was GLOC's comment that I responded to (being a mod) and only mods can delete threads (as used in my example).

You don't need to justify your actions to me. I accept this is Jays (effectively) private board, which he allows us to post on, within his rules. I have my own views on thread deletions etc. which basically goes along the lines of; if you say something in public you can't talke it back, so why delete threads (legal issues accpted)? Generally stupid posts show the OP to be a tit and should be left there.

I agree with Steve S, saying things that are spiteful etc etc. are hurtful and affect people as it would in real life, because YD is real life; it's just an alternate mode of communication, therefore "it's only YD" or "it's only the internet" are actually not true.

Need to stick my £5.50 in here
I think Gloc has a very good point when he says people are probably getting pissed off and "The greens/reds system was brought back to allow people to say thanks without having to resort to a post on the thread or a PM. Please don't abuse it. "
BUT ... I think he was perhaps being a bit glib with the comment " YD isn't real life!! " because it is.
We do actually get to know people on here, many of us feel safe to be honest on YD and to meet up with divers, even though we may never have seen them before and are in fact, meeting with strangers.
It is Jay's set up and the moderation that makes this possible so I for one have a lot of respect for the job the mods do (notice how I said for the 'jobs they do' )

Now, the comment "it's only the internet" is an entirely different thing. Everyone can opt to ignore certain threads, posts or even members if they chose and from that respect there's very little point in getting your knickers in a twist, although sometimes, because we are all real and many of us good friends, you can get drawn in and sometimes post against your better judgement, but we are all human.

So, Gloc, as a mod word stuff more carefully or I'll assume you mean that and toast your knackers on Wednesday, well they aren't real are they must be made of marshmallow ; and thanks to all the other Mods who, for my part, help to make YD a safe and friendly place to be

PS I think you did right to post your apology DSD as others picked up on your comment on another thread, although you could probably have put the apology there

Althought an apology only works if the person thinks there's real sentiment behind it. When I read it I thought...

Ha ha I can't say I know DSD very well but I do know him and I have found him to be a kind and generous hearted guy so I'm inclined to think that if he says sorry he very probably means it. Of course I don't get blokes so may have missed something fundamental

An apology to Milldog?

I just don't get it? He's a morris dancer at weekends, he stinks of wee and his mum dresses him funny. He deserves everything he gets
