Yep, I can't understand why anyone gets pissed off when walking along a green lane in the middle of nowhere and a load of middle aged Jeremy Clarkson wannabees come rolling up it.

Exactly. My diesel pickup is reckoned to be the most efficient in the class, what do Chevvy do when they put the Isuzu design on sale in the US under their badge? Stick a big f**k off V8 petrol in it. Idiots.

Any country that invades one of the biggest oil fields in the world and then to not manage to get any oil out of it is, as one of their more illustrious Septic diving members used to say, farmyard stupid.

Even if you don't care about carbon footprints or AGW - which is fraught with experts on both sides claiming it's worse or better or nonexistent, there are some absolute facts:

Fossil fuel is finite - it now appears to cost more to pump than it used to, and there is a growing belief that the Saudi oilfields are nowhere near as full as used to be believed.
There is more traffic on the roads now than most of the road network was designed for, so gridlocks and "sheer weight of traffic" is an everyday occurrence.

it's these 2 facts that make me consider changing my car for a slightly smaller, less thirsty one, but thanks to the changes made to the costs of driving, my car has become pretty much unsaleable. My wife's car is similarly large and will be heavily taxed, but as we need at least 1 car that can fit all 6 of us in, 4 of whom are still in child seats, we'll be keeping that one for a while.

I'm doing my bit, though, by not driving as much as I could, or used to. I am working at home today, which saves me 40 miles on my car. I'm car sharing more as well, in the tax year just gone I managed just over 10% of my work miles with a passenger (I have to keep records, I get an extra 5p per mile tax relief!).

The government is all about tax tax tax, if they were serious about their green agenda, perhaps they could rebate rebate rebate on people who work at home? At the moment working from home is a hot topic, as if it is officially sanctioned I believe the employing company has to ensure that the home office is a "safe environment" and is liable for things like trips & falls.

Of course, working at home isn't really that environmentally friendly, as during the "dash for gas" no nuclear power stations were built. I believe even David Bellamy has now supported the building of nuclear power stations instead of coal, oil or gas fired. Nimbyism has effectively killed large scale wind farms, and there are doubts about the dust to dust cost of the wind turbines anyway.

    Hmmm.

so its , and I put this in bold to make it perfectly clear for the hard of thinking,

    OPEN TO ALL TRAFFIC

will be shown on the definitive maps at the Local Authority and surely the ramblers can read a map correctly and realise its for all users. of course there are the idiots who rag their modified vehicles down the lanes and these are truly scum of the earth , but for those of us who do it properly, whats the issue.

if its blocked by overgrown trees and is impassable and green laners open it up for others then thats a bad thing???

And what reputable scientific peer reviewed journal did you get that bollox from. I can't be bothered to go through the science, just look it up anywhere. Even the most cursory search would turn up data to show the opposite is the case.

I searched on World CO2 levels, these are the first 2 hits

Or are they bollox as well because they don't happen to fit some pet theory?

Never mind all that. Everyone with an IQ higher than a house brick knows that we are polluting the planet and destroying the environment with our current lifestyle. The people that put forward these twattish arguments don't actually believe them they just wish they were true. A bit like hoping for some idyllic life-after-death with lots of nubile young virgins giving a quick BJ and saying thanks for blowing up all the infidels...

The simple facts are there. Crude oil is getting more expensive and fuel with it. There is no room to cut tax without cutting the military or the health service so it aint going to happen. Take the tax off fuel and you are looking at 10p on the basic rate of income tax. That aint going to happen either.

We have to face up to falling standards of living.

Moan all you like it will not make any difference. A bit like hoping in the face of all commonsense that the Bank of England will drop interest rates to prop up the bullshit house price bubble for just that little bit longer.

Welcome to the real world of £1.50 a litre petrol.

    Chris
