HA HA HA HA HE HEEEEEEE HE HE HA HA HEEEEEEE!

I spotted this story in last week's(?) Daily Mail and thought I'd try to find an alternative source of info on the story due to the fact that, believe it or not, some YDers don't like the Daily Mail :ong:.

Gran told to stop kids using pool over safety fears - Portsmouth Today

AIUI, the problem is that the PP would have been in a communal area but even so .......... will deep puddles be banned?

On the face of it, what choice did the council have?

Only a few weeks ago a child was (badly) injured on a bouncy castle in a friends back garden. The parents sued the owners.
I expect a blind eye has been turned with this paddling pool, but by asking the council for permission to have a bigger pool, the council can only respond it by insisting on all H&S issues being addressed, or they could be held liable if/when little Timmy's parents try to sue.

More to the point, if she just carries on as she has done, will the council be jobsworths and shut it down?

It's a sad state of affairs, but as people are quick to phone "no win no fee" lawyers, it is a fact of life.

With ref to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy; I know which spaceship I don't want to be on + I can only presume there is a lifeguard present.

Isn't there anyone in authority who can, just once' say "fcuk off and don't be such an idiot"?

This is a never ending and ever tightening spiral of bureaucracy within which new rules result in even more stupid rules being created.

Can't someone once just say I'm sorry X is dead but you/they should have been paying more attention.

Shall we start a sweep stake for the date on which, officially, there is nothing that can happen that isn't someone's responsibility?

Whatever happened to personal responsibility and supervising your own children??

Or are we now saying that the minority of f*ckwits should be protected from their own stupidity? Was Darwin wrong or are we just trying to beat nature?

It's impossible to voice comment without seeming heartless?

There will be people on here who spent their childhoods playing in ponds, fishing, collecting newts, swimming in lakes and playing on rope swings over rivers. If you fell off, broke your arm or went home crying, you'd get told off or a smack bum for getting your clothes filthy!

Maybe children don't know how to paddle these days

Oh well, if you can't beat them .... does anyone know if you can claim restrospectively (35 years retrospectively)?

I recollect that at Scout camp I sustained 3 nasty injuries .......

I got boiling water from a billy can (handle came off) over my arm and ended up with the biggest single blister I have ever had.

Someone smacked me in the face with a cricket bat and I had 5 stiches in my lip (3 inside and 2 outside) - to this day I can't smile properly.

I forget the third problem but that's enough to be going on with?

How much would that lot be worth these days?
