According to a Bill Bryson's book, the nearest star that "might" support life means any observation of us is likely to have been when we were very much younger, they wouldnt have as yet seen us during the last 50years. SO assuming he's right we would be very un-interesting, they certainly wouldnt be aware of our Moon landings, therefore as yet to them unable to take part in space travel i.e. no threat, unless of course they had the ability to corelate where were going based on our evolution of say 200 years ago. That would be our nearest possible neighbour, liklihood is they arent actually there but some place much further out, thereby meaning they would probably not know that life exists on our planet, in any form. The chances of us being visited are very small indeed. When you look at all the things that have happened to our planet to bring us to this point we call intelligent life I doubt very much if any other planet has gone through the same or similar sequence of events, therefore in my view its extremely unlikely there is any other life form out there that is 'intelligent'. Our planet has been around for a long time (in our terms), in terms of a 24 hr clock representing the time planet Earth has been around we (man) represent I think its 30 seconds odd and only a very small portion of that is Homo Sapien (Literally 'thinking man"). I have little doubt another planet will or may have gone through what we have and will create 'intelligent' life or has done so in the distant past, I doubt very much we will be around to witness it if and when it happnes elsewhere. According to our understandin of the planets past history, the more 'intelligent' or advanced a life form, the quicker it goes into extinction and "we" by all accounts are well overdue to join the other 95% of our planets extinct life forms. what will we know in another 10,20 or 50 years time? |

I have no doubt there may have been or there will be 'life' on another planet, I just think that the chances of another planet having evolved to reach the same point we have at this time is extremely unlikely. Planet Earth took one Hell of a long time to create us, we are here for a blink of an eye, what are the chances of that being replicated to have 'their' creation co-incide with ours? Matt |

i also like the idea that we're a ferrule world left alone in some big experiment by other civilisations and they watch us like a galactic version of big brother |

| the odds are forever increasing that we might ever be visited by aliens due to the fact that the univers is forever expanding (for them lot down south "gettin bigger") which we know by observing the red shift (the electromagnetic septrum "shifting" towards the "red end") altough i still stick by my ealier comment about grains of sand in everest therom Quote:
we could just be expanding into a black hole that surrounds the entire univers... eventualy when earth gets there our sun will have (hopefully) burnt up i bet you'd never guess that i took science physics as a gsce would ya ??? cheers
