(Fun at work - bottled water being given out - and I'm sure most of those getting it, don't usually drink water . Apparently local schools have been advised to close as well.
Just drink tea.

But if it's in the water at school, won't it also be in the water at home? I don't understand the logic in this at all; how will sending them home protect the pupils' health?

they can be watched over easier to make sure they don't drink unboiled.

simple as that really- and its a local authority decision not a heads decision.

Not saying it isn't. But watched over by who? If it was my brother's kids, there'll be no one home to watch or otherwise. Sounds more like the LEA absolving themselves of any liability to me. Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the shops for a load of soft drink or fruit juice if it's that desperate?

I don't reckon that many of them woulf be drinking water at school anyway.

Schools don't really have the facilities to boil (and cool and store) water for hundreds of children. Homes have kettles (for a few children).

More worryingly though, after major outbreak in Galway last year, it took 5 months before the all-clear was officially given. I doubt if people were boiling water all that time (or were they?) And were schools closed? (and how long for?)

I'm just wondering at what stage the Northamptonshire schools will reopen - and what will really have changed by the time they do?

Possibly. But in the current culture who can blame them. If they don't close and little Johnny gets sick, who gets flamed?

Pitsford reservoir is untreated water, so the source of contamination could be direct from the land around the res, or the land around the primary source and any open viaducts between them.

wonder why the treatment plants missed it, under investment in infrastructure i wonder?

ps schools routinely close on any interuption to the supply of mains water.
